A Working Landscape
The Guadalhorce is really valleys and hills together — fertile lowland strung between rockier slopes — and both halves earn their keep.
Among the citrus groves and vegetable gardens, generations of growers have worked land people still call the garden of Málaga; up on the hillsides, avocado plantations have sprung up whilst herds of goats and sheep, including the native Malagueña goat — one of Europe’s finest milking breeds — still graze the rough Mediterranean slopes dotted with wild olives, almond trees and aromatic herbs.
Local farmers grow and supply produce to some of the best restaurant kitchens in Málaga and Marbella, right here in these same hills and valleys.
